October 24: The World Radio communication conference opened in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday. The Information and Communications Minister Lyonpo Leki Dorji is attending the conference.
It will focus on deploying new wireless technologies to bridge the digital divide.
Addressing the conference Lyonpo Leki Dorji said ICT is making a huge impact on our social, economic, political and cultural lives. He said mobile phone in particular is becoming increasingly integrated with our behavioral patterns and lifestyles.
This he said is empowering individuals to communicate anywhere at anytime to collaborate, innovate and compete.
A news release from the Ministry of Information and Communication says the conference is aimed at providing a framework for the examination of issues, plans and programmes relating to radio communication development.
