World Food Day observed at Dungkhar Primary School, Lhuntse

October 17: Yesterday was the world food day. The day marks the founding of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The theme this year is right to food. It seeks renewed commitment to the right to food.

In Bhutan, the day was observed at the Dungkhar primary school in Lhuntse. To observe the day, students and villagers took part in a debate and quiz competition on agriculture.

An exhibition on agriculture and livestock was also held in Dungkhar.

As part of the celebration, prizes were also awarded to the best school farms in the country. The first prize went to Taktsi middle secondary school in Trongsa.

The World Food Programme is providing a support of 5,000 US dollars to the Dungkhar primary school.

The money will be used to develop agriculture farming in the school. Every year, the day is hosted by a school with school agriculture program.
