September 12: A new month and a new deadline. Workshop owners in Changzamtok have been told to complete the move to the new Olarongchu site by the end of September.
The new deadline comes after a meeting of workshop owners, Thimphu City Corporation officials and the building owners at Olarongchu.
In Kuenga Workshop, the day’s work goes on as the workshop personnel carry out repair jobs on the vehicles. But the owner of the workshop Kuenga has to focus on a bigger task. Like other owners of workshops in the Changzamtok area, he has to ensure that his business moves to the Olaorongchu by the end of this month.
While the move to the new site has been beset with delays, Kuenga says moving to the new site would mean operating on a smaller space than the present one.
He said the new space that he has can accommodate at the most six to seven vehicles. He will have to pay Nu. 30,000 as rent for his space which is classified as medium.
Meanwhile the shifting of the workshops have started by yesterday, September 11.
While some workshop owners are waiting for the allotment of space at the new site, the City Corporation says the Olaronchu area can accommodate more than 40 workshops and that the allocation of workshop will be decided by Automobile Association with the priority given to active workshop owners at Changzamtok.
