Women in politics for better tomorrow |
October 01: Political parties in the kingdom are making efforts to involve women in politics. It is generally believed that women’s participation in decision making, be it in the civil service, National Assembly, or local governance is dismal.
Both the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa and People’s Democratic Party have formed women’s wings. They have been meeting village women highlighting the importance of taking active participation in politics.
On Friday, the women’s tshogpa of Druk Phuensum Tshogpa met with the women of the Lamgong Wangchang constituency in Paro The meeting drew more than three hundred women.
The meeting was called to introduce the Tshogpa to the women of Lamgong Wangchang constituency. The party candidate for the constituency former foreign minister Khandu Wangchuk was also present at the meeting.
Aum Rinzi a member of women’s tshogpa said women’s involvement in party politics and decision-making will contribute towards a better tomorrow.
The party has formed women’s tshogpa in Thimphu and Gangtey in Phobjikha. The tshogpa currently |
