February 10: Police in Gelephu are looking for a 34 year old man for allegedly murdering his twenty eight year old wife. Our reporter Sonam Rinchen says the man is alleged to have committed the crime around 6:30 PM on Friday, February 8.

The deceased, Rupa Darjee was staying at her mother’s house in Purano Basti. She had moved out of her husband’s house in Zomlingthang in Gelephu a fortnight ago along with her four children.

The mother of the victim told BBS that Rupa Darjee was cooking in the kitchen when the rest of the family members including the sister and the children of the deceased had gone to wash their hands outside. The family said they were not aware of the alleged murderer’s presence when they went outside the house.

The victim’s sister upon hearing the cries for help ran to the house and found Rupa Darjee with several wounds on her head and body. The victim’s sister also saw her brother in law fleeing from the spot.

Doctor TB Rana who was on emergency duty at the Gelephu Regional Referral Hospital said Rupa Darjee was brought dead to the hospital. He said the victim had multiple stabs on her head and body.
