Woman detained on suspicion of murdering her husband

June 19: Thimphu police have detained a 58-year-old woman on suspicion of murdering her husband who disappeared six years ago.

She was arrested after police discovered the decomposed body of her husband from an old compost pit adjacent to her house at Waleyna village under Mewang geog in Thimphu Dzongkhag.

Though the body was not recognizable, police were able to identify the body as that of her missing husband.

Suspecting foul play, police arrested the woman who upon interrogation confessed to the crime. She said she had a quarrel with her husband one night after he returned home drunk. In the ensuing scuffle, she hit her husband on the head with a piece of wood killing him.

To evade arrest, she hid the body in the compost pit adjacent to her house and destroyed all the evidence. She kept it a secret till the body was discovered on June 4.
