Windstorm damages 80 acres of maize field in Monggar

More than 80 acres of maize in Monggar has been damaged by a windstorm on Friday. It has affected more than 90 households.

The windstorm has damaged more than 19 acres of maize in Chali geog.

Villagers said the windstorm has also damaged their potato and vegetable fields.

In Monggar geog, around 60 acres of maize field have been damaged in the two villages of Khamber and Tagchu.

Our reporter Tshering Jamtsho says the farmers are worried since the windstorm has not even spared their vegetables.

The Monggar Gup Dechen Yeshey said this is the first such disaster in the dzongkhag. He said the farmers are worried about their harvest this year.

Jigme Tenzin, the Dzongkhag Agriculture Officer told BBS that they have completed compiling a report on the extent of damage. He said the final report will be sent to the Ministry of Agriculture.
