US$ 3.7 million for changing the lives of Bhutanese children

Save the children, USA is providing financial assistance of US$ 3.7 million to the Royal Government.

The MoU between the Royal Government and Save the Children, USA was signed by the Secretary of the GNH Commission, Karma Tsiteem and the Country Director of Himalayan Country Office based in Kathmandu, Nepal, Victoria R. Clawson.

A news release from Save the Children says through this grant, it will assist programs and activities that will bring positive changes in the lives of the Bhutanese children, adolescent, youth and their families.

The news release says primary areas of cooperation will be early childhood care and development, primary education and adolescent development.

Meanwhile the Norwegian Government has committed financial assistance of Nu. 270 million to the Royal Government. The agreement to this effect was signed by the Norwegian Ambassador to Bhutan, Ann Ollestad and the Secretary of GNH commission, Karma Tshiteem.

A news release from the GNH Commission says the fund will be used to assist three projects in 10th five year plan. The projects are the Strengthening of the Energy Sector phase III, Accelerated Hydro Power Development Program and Management of Risks caused by Natural Hazards for New Infrastructure Development in Bhutan Phase III.
