September 04: In Zhemgang, two women were killed on the spot when a tree fell on the tent they were occupying. The incident took place at around 4pm on September 1.

The two women were working on the construction of a new bridge at Tshachugang.

They were from Gongphu village under Trong gewog. The bridge is being constructed with the beneficiaries from Trong and Nagkhor gewogs contributing labour. Because they were the only female workers, they had stayed back at the campsite to prepare dinner for the fellow workers.

Our reporter says why and how the tree got uprooted is not known. The weather was reportedly fine and the tree wasn’t very old he says.
