Two men go on trial for robbing tourists last year

February 5 : Two men in their early twenties are being tried in the Thimphu district court for robbing a group of American tourists at Seo Thang Thangka in Lingzhi Dungkhag on 24th October last year. Their trial began today.

Police submitted the investigation report to the court on 30th January. According to the report, the two men stole personal effects belonging to the American tourists including 7550 US dollars and 61600 Ngultrums in cash from a tourist camp site at Seo Thang Thangkha. They also stole seven cameras and two binoculars, clothes, and documents.

They left some of the things they had stolen including the cameras and a binocular at Rongsikhongchu after they found the load too heavy to carry.

They were later found by a couple who took them home. When they heard that the police were looking for the burglars, they hid the belongings. The couple is also being tried in the court.

The Snow Leopard Treks and Tours, through which the tourists came to Bhutan, has been directed to return the belongings and produce the receipt in the court.
