August 21: Tsirang District Court has sentenced four men to prison term ranging from five years to five months.
Sonam Tobgay, the Manager of Andu Builders was sentenced to five years imprisonment. He was found guilty of withdrawing advance money of over Nu. 7 million from the Dzongkhag by producing fake bills.
According to the court verdict Sonam Tobgay directed one of his sub-ordinates Kunal Chetri to prepare the fake bills. Kunal Chetri has been sentenced to three years imprisonment.
The money was meant for procuring raw materials for the construction of new classrooms at Mendaygang Middle Secondary School.
According to the court verdict, the raw materials have not reached the site.
Meanwhile, the Site Engineer Phub Dorji has been sentenced to 10 months imprisonment. While the the Dzongkhag Engineer Lhabchu has been sentenced to five months imprisonment.
They were found guilty of signing the fake bills without proper verification and inspecting the raw materials at the site.
