Trashigang residents face drinking water shortage

September 25:Residents of Trashigang town have been facing drinking water shortage. Municipal officials say that a water tank at the source has been damaged by a landslide few weeks ago.

For more than a week residents of Tashigang town have been facing drinking water shortage.

Tenzin from Municipal office who looks after the water supply said that the water tank at the source was damaged by a landslide few weeks ago, disrupting the water supply to the town area.

As an immediate solution, municipal authorities have identified another water source near the previous one. Municipal authorities said they are looking at permanent solutions.

With limited water supply, residents especially hotels that cater to a large number of customers every day are facing difficulty.

Karma is one of the hotel owners in Trashigang. To keep his hotel running, Karma drives his car and goes to his friend’s house to fetch water.

Hoteliers said the water shortage is making difficult to maintain cleanliness.

The town’s Chimi Sonam Dorji told BBS that the problem is not new.
He said during the monsoon there is either a shortage of water or the water becomes muddy making it unfit for consumption.
