September 19: Very soon, people will not have to wait for months before they get their driving license. The Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) has procured a driving license printing machine. With the new machine, it will only take about three days to get your license printed.
This printing machine was bought at about four hundred thousand Ngultrums. It can print a color PVC driving license in a minute or so. This means drivers will not have to wait for months to get their licenses printed.
Earlier the RSTA gave the printing work to private firms. It takes at least two months for them to deliver the driving licenses.

The move is being initiated as part of efforts to reduce the administrative burden. It is being initiated by the Anti-corruption Commission to reduce expenses borne by the public due to official rules and procedures.
Karma Pemba, the Senior Transport Officer said delivery of driving license is one of the major problems since they had to depend on private firms.
Driving license printing machines have also been provided to regional offices in Phuntsholing, Gelephu and Samdrupjongkhar. The Transport Officers in region are now authorized to issue the driving licenses.
With this, people in the other parts of the country will not have to come to the RSTA headquarters in the capital to process their license. |
