June 17: Custom officials in Phuentsholing have seized tobacco products worth over Nu. 200,000 last week.

The tobaccos were seized from an Indian maruti van on two occasions. In the first incident the maruti van was caught from near the Norgay movie theatre carrying 200 boxes of cigarettes worth over Nu. 140,000.

Our reporter Tenzin Wangda said the driver was apparently waiting to transhift the banned products to another vehicle which will take the tobacco to Thimphu.

On Sunday evening, the same maruti van was caught again carrying cigarettes and two gunny bags of chewing tobacco worth over Nu. 65,000. The driver was caught this time at the truck parking.

The vehicle is under police custody.
