October 01: The Thri Lung ceremony in Tsirang presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo began on saturday.
Thousands of devotees are attending the weeklong Thri Lung ceremony which is being held at the Damphu public ground.
Our reporter Sonam Ugyen says some of the devotees have come from as far as Trashigang and Samdrupjongkhar.
The ceremony began with His Holiness the Je Khenpo explaining the basic precepts of Buddhism.
The weeklong Thri Lung ceremony will end on October 4, with the administration of Wang and Lung.
The Thri Lung ceremony will be followed by a Moenlam Chenmo.
Buddhists believe that they must receive the sacred Thri Lung ceremony at least once in their lifetime.
It is believed that attending the ceremony will help guide the faithful along the path of enlightenment.
