September 20: A 12 years old girl has been injured in an accident in Thimphu yesterday.
The accident occurred at around 8:20am near the Chubachu traffic.
An eye witness told BBS that the girl was trying to cross the road when she was hit by a speeding Maruti van taxi.
Doctors who examined the girl said she has not suffered major injuries, except a collar bone fracture and some minor cuts on the scalp and the upper lip.
This is the third traffic accident involving small children in a week. Last Thursday two primary school children were seriously injured. One of them a seven year old boy was hit by a Maruti van near the old vegetable market.
The pediatric surgeon with the National Referral Hospital said that he was in critical condition when he was brought to the hospital. However his condition is now said to be improving.
On the same day another 7-year-old student of Zilnyon Namgyaling community school was hit by a government land cruiser near Lungtenzampa Bridge. He has since then been discharged from the hospital.
