Three men detained for possession of detonating cap
February 19: Police in Pangbang under Zhemgang Dzongkhag have detained three men for illegal possession of a detonator cap.
A police spokesperson said the three men had gone fishing along the Zangbichu. They were apparently going to use the detonator to fish. When a deafening noise is made in the river, the fish begins to float in the river.
One of the three men was injured when the detonator exploded.
The police spokesperson said maybe the fuse was too short. The injured was initially admitted in Yebilaptsa hospital. He was then referred to Gelephu hospital. From there he has been taken to the national referral hospital in Thimphu.
According to a doctor at the national referral hospital the man has lost a thumb and damaged his right eye when the devise exploded. Both his hands have also been badly scratched.
Police said the case will be chart-sheeted to the court under the Arms and Ammunitions Acts.
They said many people are not aware that illegal possession of arms and ammunitions is a crime.
