January 30: Three houses located above the Wangdue checkpost were razed to the ground by a fire in Wanduephodrang yesterday evening.
The Wangdue Dzongda Kuenzang Wangdi said the fire started at around 4:15 pm and was brought under control at 7 pm.
The cause of the fire is not known.
There were 10 to 12 tenants living in the houses. There were no injuries or casualties but the occupants have lost almost all their belongings in the blaze.
Two of the houses were two storied traditional Bhutanese houses. The third was a three storied concrete house.
Dzongda Kuenzang Wangdi said the fire has probably started from the first floor of one of the two traditional Bhutanese houses. He said two fire brigades along with the army, police and local residents battled the fire.
He said the fire would have spread to a one storied house located very nearby if the wooden shingle roof of the house was not removed.
