December 28: Thousands of people from Punakha and neighbouring Dzongkhags of Wangduephodrang, Thimphu, and Paro gathered in the courtyard of the Puna Dewa Chenpoi Phodrang to receive blessings and offer prayers to Rangjoen Kharsarpani yesterday.
The sacred relic is rarely displayed. Beginning yesterday, it will be on display for three days for the public.
The Rangjoen Kharsapani is believed to have self created from the first vertebra of Tsangpa Jarey, the founder of the Drukpa Kagyu tradition of Buddhism. It was brought to Bhutan by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in the early 17th century.
The venerable Tsula Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang Lopen Samten Dorji said the scared relic is being displayed by the Central Monastic Body to mark the Coronation of His Majesty the King, the Centenary of the Monarchy and the successful transition to a democracy.
The venerable Tsula Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang Lopen Samten Dorji said if one prays to the Rangjoen Kharsapani with faith and devotion, it will bring forth merit and good fortune.
