August 18: The Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway will remain closed on Mondays and Tuesdays every week from August 25. This is being done to ensure that the road widening work can progress uninterrupted.
Authorities are asking people to plan their travel accordingly. They are also cautioning motorists to be extra careful while driving along the Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway.
Because of falling boulders and land slides triggered by the incessant rain, driving on the highway has become extremely dangerous. Our reporter says the road is also muddy and slippery and visibility especially between Gedu and Chhukha is poor at this time of the year.
On Saturday, August 16, many motorists had to wait at Chhukha Check post and Gedu for several hours for the fog to clear.
Road and traffic authorities caution the general public to avoid unnecessary travel while maintenance works are underway.
