Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway open to traffic

August 14: The Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway opened to traffic from this morning. Despite adverse weather conditions at the slide prone area at Takti, DANTAK continued efforts to clear the road blocks yesterday.

Authorities are advising travelers to exercise caution on the highway as there are possibilities of rainfall loosening the soil and causing slides.

Our reporter Tenzin Wangda who is in Gedu said continuous rainfall and poor visibility are some of the factors that are hampering clearance works.

The Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) base in-charge of Gedu told our reporter that due to the unstable nature of the terrain at the stretch, there were more chances of slides occurring at the site.

Our reporter Tenzin Wangda adds that traffic police and Dzongkhag officials are also assisting the authorities.
