The new truck parking under construction |
November 22: The capital city Thimphu will soon get a new parking space for trucks. The City corporation is constructing a parking area for trucks near the flyover bridge along the Thimphu Babesa expressway.
The parking area will be located along the express way near the fly over bridge that is being constructed. The area measures about five acres. Of that about half will be developed as the truck parking area.
City corporation officials said the new parking area will be able to accommodate over hundred trucks.
The Officiating Chief Engineer of Thimphu City corporation, Pekar Rabgay said the new truck parking are is being constructed because the old parking area located behind the Changlimithang stadium is to be redeveloped as parking area for public and V.I.P vehicles during the centenary celebrations in 2008.
He said the new parking area will help solve traffic congestion problem caused by heavy vehicles. Pekar Rabgay said as per the Thimphu urban structure plan, this area falls under the green area.
But since there are no other flat areas, the City corporation has selected the area for constructing the truck parking area.
It is being constructed at an estimate cost of about Nu. six million. It is expected to be complete by mid February next year.
