June 7: Initiatives will be taken to improve existing facilities at the crematorium in Thimphu. A news release from the cabinet says the diesel crematorium will be made operational.
Construction of the Mithrupai Lhakhang and monk’s quarter below the crematorium will be expedited.
Once complete more than 100 monks will reside there and perform funeral rites and rituals free as decided by the Zhung Dratshang. Astrological consultation will be available from the Lhakhang premises. Meanwhile, a road and shed will be provided for the Nyingmapa crematorium at Hongtsho.
The cabinet has directed a team including representatives from the Ministries of Home and Cultural Affairs, Works and Human Settlement, Thimphu Dzongkhag Administration and the Education Minister to explore the establishment of a Hindu crematorium opposite the Nyingmapa crematorium in Hongtsho.
