Teaching fails to attract graduates
|
December 15: The noblest of professions, teaching, failed to attract many graduates at the selection and job placement for graduates who appeared for the Civil Service Common Examination (CSCE).
Including 29 vacancies for assistant lecturers, there were 174 vacancies in teaching. But with most of the graduates opting for either Post Graduate Diploma for Public Administration (PGDPA) or Financial Management (FM), filling up the vacancies in teaching proved difficult.
The selection and job placement for graduates who appeared for the CSCE was held at the Royal Institute of Management in Simtokha.
More than 200 graduates attended the job selection exercise. Most of them wanted to take up either the PGDPA or FM. The two courses together had 70 vacancies, 35 for each course.
To fill up the 145 vacancies in teaching, the eligibility criteria for Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) was cut down from 50% to 45%.
Apart from the vacancies for PGDE, there were also 29 slots for Assistant Lecturers. While some reluctantly agreed to join the teaching profession, others stayed back hoping to get selected for the PGDPA or FM.
This year the Royal Civil Service Commission announced 244 job vacancies for general graduates, 174 vacancies in teaching and 35 graduates each for PGDPA and in FM. |
