September 19: Taxi drivers in the capital will soon have a proper taxi parking. The construction of a proper taxi parking has been delayed by a controversy over the proposed land ownership.
The Thimphu City Corporation will soon start blacktopping and resurfacing the existing parking area. Taxi drivers in the capital have been complaining that they do not have a proper taxi parking.
The present area which is located near Bhutan Oil Distributors is muddy in the summer and dusty the rest of the year.
But their problems will soon be over. The City Corporation will resurface and blacktop the present taxi parking area and construct retaining walls, footpaths and drains.
The construction of a proper taxi parking has been delayed by a controversy over the land ownership. The City Corporation says the works will begin from the first week of October. It is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
Taxi drivers said they are happy that something is being done finally. They said it will not only solve their problems but also make it convenient for the passengers.
The City Corporation has identified the parking area opposite the milk booth as a temporary taxi parking.
