October 28:Tang geog in Bumthang now has electricity. It will benefit over three hundred seventy households.
The new substation in Tang, Bumthang was inaugurated yesterday, October 27 by the Resident Coordinator of Austrian Coordination Office Mr. Christian Mazal.
It was attended by the Dzongda, government officials and local people.
Following the inauguration, they walked to a nearby house and put on the switch. As the bulb glowed, the occupant of the house, 70 year old Tshering Wangmo expressed her happiness. She said it will benefit her immensely as her eyesight is becoming bad.
She now hopes to buy electrical appliances like rice cookers and water boilers so that her workload will decrease to a large extent.
A total of 373 households in Tang geog will now have electricity.
The General Manager of the Department of rural electrification, Gyeltshen Wangdi said electrification of Tang geog was carried out under the rural electrification works under the Austrian Coordination Bureau project.
It was built at a cost of over 36 million ngultrums.
Today another substation was inaugurated at Langthel geog in Trongsa. Built at a cost of over 14 million ngultrums, it will benefit 269 households.
It is also funded by the government of Austria.
