October 08: Under JICA’s third phase of the bridge reconstruction project, six old bridges on the Tsirang and Sarpang highway will be reconstructed. The bridges are Lawakha, Basochu, Nyarachu, Burichu, Chanchey and Loring.

An official from the Bridge Division of the Department of Roads said all the six bridges were built long time ago and are due for reconstruction.

A three member mission from JICA Headquarter is in the country to present the final draft report on the Basic Design Study for the project. The team has been discussing the final draft report with officials from the Department of Road and the Department of Energy.

The minutes of the discussion was signed yesterday afternoon by the Director General of the Department of Roads, Sangay Tenzin, the JICA Resident Representative Tetsuo Yabe and the Chief Programme Coordinator of the Gross National Happiness Commission, Pema Tshewang.

Five bridges have been reconstructed in the first phase of the bridge reconstruction project and three in the second phase.
