June 3: Her Royal Highness Ashi Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck inaugurated an IT centre at Sherubtse College yesterday.

The IT centre building was constructed at a cost of Nu. 22 million with financial support from the Indian Government.

The officiating Director of Sherubtse College, Dr. Shivraj Bhattarai said apart from IT students, the centre will also cater to other students. He said the college has plans to introduce video conferencing and carry out research in software development in collaboration with Bhutan Telecom.

Dr. Shivraj Bhattarai said IT is in the forefront of all development activities. He said realizing the importance of IT education, the college is constantly striving to make IT service accessible to all students.

The Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan, Dasho Pema Thinley, officials from the Ministry of Education and Dzongkhag officials also attended the inauguration ceremony.
