Several vehicles stranded on Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway

January 5: Several vehicles have been stranded after the Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway was blocked by a massive landslide three kilometers before reaching Takti Chu from Phuentsholing.

Among the vehicles stranded on both sides of the roadblock are three passenger buses from Thimphu and six passenger buses from Phuentsholing.

Officials said it is not possible for the passengers to transship because of falling boulders.

Our reporter Tenzin Wangda says the landslide occurred while labourers were working on the road expansion project.

RSTA officials in the area said they hope to clear the road to traffic by 2pm today afternoon.
