Several Bhutanese passengers injured in a bus accident in Assam, India

October 16: Several Bhutanese passengers have been injured after the bus they were traveling in toppled off the road in the neighboring Indian state of Assam. The accident took place on Sunday afternoon.

They were on their way to Phuentsholing from Samdrupjongkhar.

The accident took place at Bejini in Assam around 22 kilometers from Boangaigong.

The injured were initially treated at the Lower Assam Hospital. From there, twelve passengers were later taken to the Gelephu Regional Referral Hospital.

While most of them have been discharged, some are still undergoing treatment at the hospital according to our correspondent Sonam Rinchen.

The bus they were traveling in was a daily passenger service and plies between Daranga, an Indian town at the outskirts of Samdrupjongkhar, and Jaigaon near Phuntsholing town.

The cause of the accident could not be ascertained but passengers said it was traveling at top speed when the accident occurred.
