February 24: The Tog-to-wom village under Metakha gewog in Chhukha Dzongkhag will have a separate polling station in the forthcoming election. This was decided during the 2nd Dzongkhag election coordination meeting held on February 20, 2008.
In the National Council elections, people from Tog-to-wom walked for five hours to Tog-to-gom where the polling booth was located to cast their votes.
On Wednesday, it was decided that a separate polling station will be created at Tog-to-wom.
Meanwhile the polling station at Bangay, about three kilometers from Phuentsholing town has been merged with the polling station at Phuentsholing Higher Secondary School. This means people who earlier voted at the polling station in Bangay will now have to go to Phuentsholing Higher Secondary School to vote in the forthcoming National Assembly elections.
Our Reporter Tenzin Wangda said the number of polling stations in Chhukha Dzongkhag will remain the same at 72.
During the meeting, participants also discussed several issues and problems faced during the National Council elections. The Chhukha Dzongda said the Gups have to sensitize the people so that they understand the importance of voting.
The meeting was attended by Dzongkhag election officers, presiding officers, armed forces and grassroots leaders.
