Schools cope with admission pressure

February 16: School authorities and students across the country are struggling with the mounting admission pressure. In Trashigang, 86 students who qualified for class XI in government schools did not get admission because the available seats are all taken.

Students who have completed class 10 from Pemagatshel, Trashiyangtse and Samdrup Jongkhar are placed in the five higher secondary schools in Trashigang.

Our reporter Dorji Dema says 783 students have qualified for class 11 from 12 schools in Pemagatshel, Trashiyangtse, Trashigang and Samdrup Jongkhar. 697 students were admitted in the five higher secondary schools of Rangjung, Jigme Sherubling, Bayling, Nangkor and Tashitse. The remaining 86 students although they have qualified for class 11 did not get admission.

The District Education Officer told our reporter that the matter has been forwarded to the Department of School education in Thimphu. They have requested the office to place these students in schools in Monggar, Lhuentse and Tsirang.
