Sarpang farmers point out rampaging and monsoon rains as their biggest problem

July 28: Wild elephants rampaging through crops and irrigation channels being washed away by monsoon rains are some of the common concerns for people of Sarpang. In a meeting of villagers with the Dzongda and a team of agriculture officials, villagers also pointed out shortage of drinking water as one of the problems.

A team agriculture officials led by the Sarpang Dzongda is touring geogs and meeting with people in the Dzongkhag. On Thursday the team met with the people of Dekiling geog.

The Sarpang Dzongda said damaging crops by wild elephants, irrigation channels being washed away by monsoon floods and shortage of drinking water are some of the common problems faced by the people.

He said the Dzongkhag administration will try and solve problems which are within their reach and that the serious problems will be forwarded to the government.

The Dzongkhag Agriculture officer Tashi Wangdi during the tour also briefed the people on the resettlement guidelines and land act of 2007. People were also briefed on income generation through livestock rearing.

They were also made to understand on the plans and programs initiated for the geog under the 10th Five Year Plan.

The team has visited five of the 12 geogs so far.
