April 2: Four armed force personnel have been given prison sentences ranging from seven years to 13 years for gang rape. The verdict was passed by the Thimphu district court yesterday.

The four armed force personnel are Gopa Chenden Dorji, Gopa Sonam Chophel, Chuma Kinley and Gopa Dorji Tshering of RBA.

Gopa Chenden Dorji, Gopa Sonam Chophel and Chuma Kinley were sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Gopa Dorji Tshering received a seven year prison sentence for attempted rape. Except for Chuma Kinley, all are married with children.

Their victim, a 16-year-old girl is being taken care of by RENEW and National Commission for women and Children.

The incident took place in July last year at Samazingkha in Thimphu.
