RBP's Police-Youth partnership receives positive response

August 21:
It started this Monday. Police officers led by the Chief of Police have been meeting with the students of the schools of Thimphu in an effort to build an effective Police-Youth partnership.

Yesterday, the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) met with students of the Yangchenphu and Kelki Higher Secondary school.

Our Deki Choden Dorji reports that the program has already received positive response from all quarters.

Yesterday, students of the Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School gathered at the school ground. Despite the heat of the day, the students of the school were all ears to the words coming from the microphone. And behind the mic was the chief of the police flanked by his officers.

Colonel Kipchu Namgyel in his interactions with the students has been sensitizing them on what comprises illegal activities and explaining the penal provisions that accompany them.

While concerns are growing, the chief of police said the Police-Youth partnership should be seen as a preventive measure.

Aided by other police officers, the team headed by the chief of police has also been seeking the views of the students.

Police say many of the youth are not aware of the legal provisions and informing them is important.

Colonel Kipchu Namgyal said he has received positive feedback from the parents and teachers. He said the RBP is also planning to involve the students during the winter break in outreach programmes.

With the positive response received so far, the team from the RBP intends to conduct similar programmes in schools around the country.
