April 5: Bhutan and India signed the protocol to the agreement on Tala Hydroelectric Project Authority (THPA) and the protocol to the agreement on Kurichu Hydro Power Plant (KHPP) yesterday.
The protocol to the agreement on THPA was signed by the Finance Secretary Lam Dorji and India’s Ambassador to Bhutan Mr. Sudhir Vyas.
A news release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the signing of the protocol formalizes the repayment schedule of loans and interest to the Government of India for THPA.
The protocol to the agreement on the KHPP was signed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Dasho Sonam Tshering and the Indian Ambassador Mr. Sudhir Vyas.
With the signing of the protocol, the tariff for export of power to India from Kurichu has been merged with the prevalent tariff for the export of power from THPA.
The tariff for the export of power from Kurichu is revised from Nu. 1.75 to Nu. 1.80 per unit from January 1, 2008.
