Political parties in the process of finalizing their candidates
September 19: The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa has identified and finalized five more candidates, the People’s Democratic Party has finalized 44 candidates and the Bhutan United People’s Party said they will finalize their candidates before they register with the Election Commission.

The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa has identified and finalized five more candidates, Drungtsho Karma Wangchuk will contest the parliamentary elections from Chumey-Ura constituency in Bumthang and Prem Kumar Gurung will contest from the Gelephu constituency under Sarpang.

Minjur Dorji is the Druk Phunsum Tshogpa candidate from Kanglung-Samkhar-Uzorong constituency. N.B Gurung will contest the election from Pataley-Tsirangtoed and Yangku Tshering Sherpa from Kilkhorthang-Mandalgang constituency under Tsirang Dzongkhag.

With the identification of the five candidates, Druk Phuensum Tshogpa has finalized 41 candidates.

A top party member told our reporter Dawa that they are in the process of selecting the other six candidates. He said they hope to finalize all the candidates about a month from now.

Meanwhile the People’s Democratic Party has finalized 44 candidates.

They are yet to finalize the candidates from three constituencies -the Drakteng-Langthel constituency under Trongsa, Deothang-Gomdar constituency under Samdrupjongkhar and Shompangkha constituency under Sarpang Dzongkhag.

The Party’s General Secretary said there are two candidates each from Drakteng-Langthel and Deothang-Gomdar constituencies.

Namgay Dorji and Pem Tshering are vying for a ticket from the Drakteng-Langthel constituency and Mingbo Dukpa and Tashi Dorji from the Deothang-Gomdar constituency.

Shompangkha constituency has identified Yeshey as one of the candidates.

There are also talks of another candidate and the people have yet to make a decision, the Party’s General Secretary said.

The Bhutan United People’s Party said they will finalize their candidates before they register with the election commission. A party member said in addition to their former candidates, they have 71 university graduates.

He said they have also been receiving calls from several interested individuals.
