Political parties and candidates not allowed to arrange public conveyance
March 10: Political parties and candidates are not allowed to arrange any public conveyance directly or indirectly to transport voters traveling to their constituencies to vote.
A notification from the Election Commission says anybody found doing so will be legally prosecuted and the transport impounded. It says the Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) has been directed to ensure that there is adequate public transport facility at every point to facilitate the movement of voters.
It adds that RSTA shall issue permits to other registered transporters to ply on the poll day from every road head to places of voting at rates fixed and terms and conditions approved by RSTA.
