Police-Youth partnership

August 19:
Youth getting arrested and convicted has been increasing over the years. The Royal Bhutan Police says mugging cases in Thimphu have become a cause of concern.

To prevent such crimes, the Royal Bhutan Police is undertaking a Police-Youth partnership programme.

It began with an interactive session with the Chief of Police and the students of Nima Higher Secondary School. Other police officers and officials from the education ministry were also present.

At the interactive session yesterday afternoon, the panel of police officers sensitized the students on what comprises illegal youth activities and explained the penal provisions.

The Chief of Police also spoke about the components of gangs and how to avoid gang fights.

Through such programmes, the Royal Bhutan Police hopes to build a partnership with the youth in educating them on the consequences of criminal conducts.

There are also plans to carry out similar programmes in other schools in Thimphu and other parts of the country.
