Police detains a man accused of poisoning two men

February 12: Police in Paro are investigating the death of two men in Bjishigang in Shari gewog. They are suspected to have died from poisoning.

The two men, aged 49 and 50, died on February 9, the second day of the Losar. A police official said, at around 9.40 pm, they received a report that two men have died of excessive drinking.

They said when they reached their house, the mother of one of the men said they were poisoned by a neighbour. According to the police report, the two men who were playing Khuru with their neighbours had consumed Ara which was offered by one of the players.

Later that afternoon, the two men complained of excessive vomiting and diarrhoea. Shortly after that they passed away. Doctors who examined the two men said there were no external injuries.

A forensic expert from the national referral hospital has performed autopsy. Police said the autopsy samples will be examined to determine the cause of the death.

Police have detained the man accused of poisoning the two men.
