Police arrest a woman for selling drugs

December 13: A 40-year-old woman has been arrested by Thimphu police for selling drugs.

She was apprehended on December 11 after she tried to sell drugs to a police informer. Police found strips of Relipen and Nitrosun tablets and 600 milliliters of Corex in her possession.

Police said she bought the tablets from a medical shop in the border town of Jaigoan. Her main customers, she said, are the youth. She confessed that she had sold psycotropic substances on two earlier occasions also.

The case will be forwarded to the court. She will be charged for illegal transaction of controlled substance under section 498 of the penal code of Bhutan.

Police said alcohol and drugs are the leading cause of fights in Thimphu. They said from now on there will be zero tolerance for those who indulge in drugs and get involved in fights.
