November 19: A photo exhibition of the royal wedding of His Majesty the Third Druk Gyalpo to Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother Ashi Kesang Choeden Wangchuck opened at the folk heritage museum at Kawajangsa in Thimphu.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Her Royal Highness Ashi Pema Lhadon Wangchuck yesterday, November 18.
The Royal Wedding took place in October 1951 in Paro. The photos both black and white and colour show the preparation, wedding ceremony, the bride and families journeying from Haa to Paro and the tokha hosted during the time of the wedding.
The Bhutan Post has also put on display a collection of historic stamps.
The photo exhibition was organised by Frances Todd Steward, a US citizen with the help of the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, the Bhutan Post and the VAST Studio in Thimphu. The parents of Frances Todd Steward were close friends of His Majesty the third Druk Gyalpo. The photos were taken by Burk Todd, Frances Todd Steward’s father.
The opening was attended by Her Royal Highness Ashi Kezang Wangmo Wangchuck, the Prime Minister Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley, cabinet ministers, the Opposition Leader and members of the parliament.
Senior government officials and heads of diplomatic missions in thecountry also attended the launch. Also present were the friends and courtiers of His Late Majesty.
The exhibition will continue till November 30.
