October 25: The National Council election is drawing near. The election is slated for December 26, exactly two months from now. But in Trongsa, not all the people of Drakteng- Langthel constituency are aware of the role of the NC or the upcoming election and the difference between the NC election and the parliamentary election which will be held early next year.

Our reporter talked to several people. They said they are not aware of what the NC election is about. Some barely know the candidates contesting for a seat in the NC.

Activities in the gewogs are dominated by party politics with party workers organizing familiarization meetings.

Our reporter says because of this the people seem to know a good deal about the parliamentary election but they know less about the NC election.

The NC candidates will have to be nominated by the people. Each gewog is entitled to nominate a candidate. And soon people in the villages will be attending Zomdus to nominate the candidates.

Briefings at the Zomdu, it is hoped will help educate the public about the NC election including the important role the NC will be playing with the introduction of parliamentary democracy.
