December 25: The Pay Commission’s proposal on the salary revision has attracted much debate and discussion among the public. It will be discussed during the ongoing parliament session.
The Finance Ministry is also working on a separate proposal. It is not clear on which proposal or a combination of proposals the pay revision will be based.
The Pay Commission’s proposal has been released to receive public feedback and recommendations. The Pay Commission’s proposal recommends a 77 percent raise at the highest level and 40 percent raise at the lowest level.
BBS spoke to several civil servants in the capital working in various ministries. Many said the salary hike in terms of percentage should be kept the same across the board.
Others said the difference between the highest and the lowest levels are huge and it will widen the gap between the haves and have-nots.
They agreed that civil servants in higher positions deserve a higher raise considering their responsibilities and work load but the gap should be narrowed.
