Pay Commission established

May 1: The government has established a time bound autonomous Pay Commission.

A government executive order says the commission was formed as provided under Article 30 of the Draft Constitution and as approved by His Majesty the King on the recommendation of the Lhengye Zhungtshog.

The commission shall recommend revisions in the structure of the salary, allowance, benefits, and other emoluments for the royal civil service, the judiciary, the armed forces, the parliament members, the local government, the Dratshang, the holders and members of constitutional offices and other public servants.

The seven member commission will be headed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Dasho Sonam Tshering and includes the RCSC Secretary Dasho Bap Kesang, the Finance Secretary Lam Dorji, the Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Bhutan Kinga Tshering, National Assembly member Choida Jamtsho and Dasho Yangki T. Wangchuk and the CEO of Tashi Tours and Treks Tsencho Thinley representing the private sector.

The executive order says the commission shall be guided by the objectives of motivating public servants to support the smooth transition of the country into a successful democracy, meet the challenges of building a dynamic economy and work towards achieving the goals of Gross National Happiness.
