Party members are not allowed to wear kabney and Tsholham in public during campaigning

October 17: The Election Commission says candidates or members of political parties will not be allowed to wear kabney during the electoral campaign in public. The Tsholhams will also be not allowed.

This, the Chief Election Commissioner Dasho Kuenzang Wangdi said this is to give a level playing field to the candidates and parties and also to treat all contestants as equals.

“You are going to have firstly candidates contesting elections of different ranks and different status of society. Now if we insist on some of these formalities then obviously psychologically it puts some of the other candidates of not senior ranks or higher standing in societies at a disadvantage" said the Chief Election Commissioner.

"Inorder that no such atmosphere is being created for the campaign period and particularly on the polling day the electoral places are going to be places where everybody will be treated as equal even if a serving minister comes to vote, he will have to come without all the officials paraphernalia even his securities will not be allowed after certain areas and then his insignias will also have to be removed" said the Chief Election Commissioner.
