Toyota Yaris- the MPs car |
May 28: Parliamentarians have been paid Nu. 700,000, the equivalent of a Toyota Yaris car as decided by the Cabinet.
According to the National Assembly Secretary Nima Tshering those who opt for the car can keep the car at the end of the five year term.
All opted for the money.
A Cabinet meeting earlier this month decided that the Prime Minister will be provided with a Toyota Land Cruiser. The Cabinet Ministers, the National Assembly Speaker, the Chief Justice, the Chairperson of the National Council and the Opposition Leader will be provided a Toyota Prado each.
The other parliamentarians will get a Toyota Yaris car or Nu. 700,000. They will also be provided monthly fuel and maintenance allowance.
The National Assembly Secretary Nima Tshering said it is not compulsory for parliamentarians to purchase a Toyota Yaris car. He said they can buy a car of their choice.
The parliamentarians will be paid Nu. 30,000 as salary in the interim period. They will also be paid 30% of their salary as housing allowance in keeping with the Draft Parliamentary Entitlement Act. |
