October 06: The Prime Minister Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley opened the 46th raising day celebration of IMTRAT in Haa yesterday.
The Prime Minister also awarded trophies to winners of an archery tournament, quiz competition and the IMTRAT award of excellence to three students of Ugyen Dorji higher secondary school.
As part of the raising day celebrations of IMTRAT, the fair, popularly know as IMTRAT mela, featuring sky diving, gymnastic and karate displays, band performances, songs and mask dances and horse riding captured the attention of hundreds of spectators gathered at the IMTRAT training ground.
At the fair spectators can also sample choices of games, food stalls and entertainment for children.
The main attraction however is the wide variety of household goods and handicrafts items available for sale. Organizers said the fair, which is an annual event further promotes relations between Bhutan and India.
The opposition leader Tshering Tobgay, the Chief Election Commissioner Dasho Kunzang Wangdi, the Chief Operations Officer of the RBA, Major General Batoo Tshering and other senior government officials also attended the opening of the fair.
The fair is on till October 7.
