January 29:
The People’s Democratic Party submitted their letter of intent and the party manifesto to the Election Commission yesterday.

The National Assembly election is scheduled for March 24. The letter of intent was submitted by the Secretary General of the party Lam Kezang to the Chief Election Commissioner Dasho Kunzang Wangdi yesterday morning.

A news release from the Election Commission says the submission of the letter of intent marks yet another milestone in the conduct of the first ever National Assembly elections in the kingdom.

It says the party can start campaigning after their election manifesto is accepted by the Election Commission.

The PDP spokesperson Tashi Tshering said the party will start campaigning from the January 30 after the National Council elections are over. However the candidates will start campaigning only after their nominations are accepted by their returning officers.

The candidates will have to file their nomination between January 31 and February 7 with the returning officers of their respective constituencies.

The letter of intent was submitted along with the party manifesto, tentative list of candidates and campaign programme, financial statement, list of registered members and voluntary contributors.
