PDP is not on the verge of collapsing, says Opposition Leader

July 31:
The Opposition Leader Tshering Tobgay vehemently denied reports that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was on the verge of collapsing. He said the party is having a difficult time servicing their debts, maintaining their office in the dzongkhags and paying their party workers but the party is not on the verge of collapsing.

He said the PDP did not initiate the proposal for state funding. He said the PDP was party to the petition but the issue was broached by the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) and the proposal was drafted by DPT.

He said it doesn’t matter who prepared the letter because both parties needed money. He said it is also unfair to say that the PDP was holding do and die meetings. It is not accurate. He said they had meetings to present the books of accounts to their supporters but they did not have do or die meetings.

He said they are going through very difficult times financially but they have a huge support base and that support base is growing because the people understand the importance of having a strong opposition for a vibrant democracy.
